My research is focused on the analysis of the evolution of online social systems, also from the computational social science perspective. I’m interested in studying the behavior of (groups of) individuals and their interactions on social media platforms, aiming to reach a deeper understanding of online and offline social behavior and to enhance the quality of personalized web services. Social bonding, homophily, influence, social attention, popularity, information spreading, social status, and link prediction are some of the topics I have been studying lately.Additionally, I’m involved in the SocialSensor FP7 EU project, working on development of new tools for computational journalism. I’m also interested in visualization of dynamical networks and in data visualization in general. In the past I worked in the area of distributed systems, in the framework of the PROFILES project (PRIN). I developed the Likir framework, a secure and identity-aware DHT that can be used to build decentralized, privacy-aware online social networks.
Antti Syväniemi, CEO of Houston Analytics Ltd and Chairman of Armstrong One ApS, has over 15 years experience in the application of analytics to business processes. He has held executive positions in business development, CRM, customer and market intelligence and category management, and his focus areas include analytics based management models and intelligent strategy processes. Antti also lectures at the University of Helsinki and Aalto University, is a regular presenter at international business conferences, and is author of the book “The Analytics Journey: from data to information to knowledge-based management”.
Amy is Head of Data Exploitation and Southern Water having previously worked in Retail, Banking, the Public Sector and Consultancy leading work on data warehousing, master data management and analytics over a range of technology platforms. Her current responsibilities include analytic and data science functions at Southern Water. In 2015 she worked with Dr S Wakeling, Dr P Clough (both of Sheffield University) and J Wyper on original research into Graph Literacy and Business Intelligence which was later published by TDWI. Mark Mattingley-Scott has a Bachelor of Science with Joint Honours in Computing and Electronics, and a Doctor of Philosophy on the subject of Code Division Multiple Access Local Area Networks from the University of Durham, combined with 30 years experience in the commercial exploitation of technology and research. As a Principal at IBM he is specialised in the identification, nurturing and development of technological innovation, with a primary focus on Big Data Analytics, Neuromorphic Computing and Quantum Computing for IBM’s Cloud and Cognitive Business Unit. He has developed several new business areas and transferred these into IBM’s daily services and solutions business. He is an active member of IBM’s worldwide patent assessment team, and the IBM Student Admissions and Supervision program. He was a member of staff at the University of Frankfurt where he taught Cognitive Science and Media Anthropology, at the University of Applied Sciences in Mannheim where he taught Intercultural Management and IT Management and the Ludwig-Maximilian’s University in Munich where he taught Analytical Methods. He currently teaches and performs research in human & machine learning at the Institute for Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrück. He is a director of the Frankfurt Institute for New Media and a senior member of the IEEE, having founded the German chapter of the Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society. He is a director of the Big Data working group at BITKOM, the German IT and Telecommunication Industry Association. He plays bass guitar and produces electronic music.

Madhav Khurana has a vast amount of experience in Data Science and has worked in India, the UK, Sweden and Germany. He is a Senior Data Scientist at Careem in Berlin, currently leading efforts to optimize dispatching of drivers to customers. As a Data Scientist at King, he worked on a variety of projects to increase players’ retention in Candy Crush games. He also created a dynamic level difficulty model to improve game’s engagement. Prior to applying his Data Science expertise and skills in mobile applications industry, Madhav has helped numerous telecom operators in Asia, Africa, North America and Europe with their customer retention strategies. He did that while working as a Data Scientist at IMImobile, by predicting customer churn, identifying churn triggers, calculating customer lifetime value and devising plans for effective customer relationship management
